Weekly Update 12/20

Hello Parents and Students

Sorry about the late update!

We have learned over 2/3 of our show with drill and quite a bit of choreography.  We are very impressed with how much everyone has learned and how hard they have worked.

Since it is Monday already our schedule is blank for the rest of the week, and regular rehearsals will start up again next monday.

A couple of things we talked about this week:

Remember to do your new (not so fun) homework of writing down everything you learned in the last 2 rehearsals.

I have sent the show attached to this e mail in a drop box.  The file was too big to send as a basic attachment.  Let me know if you have trouble viewing it.  Please don't use it to post to websites (like youtube) or send to friends.  It is purely to help you remember counts and choreography.  It starts a little late, but it doesn't miss too much.  Also- Allie is a great person to watch to remember the flag feature choreography!

(check the e mail for the attachment.  Some of the students didn't like the idea of the video on the blog)
Please practice between now and next Monday.  We will be learning even MORE on Monday and can't spend too much time reviewing.  (remember only 6 more rehearsals until our first performance at Evaluation Show!!!)

Lastly- our flag bags need to be finished by next Monday.  If you ordered them through the school they should be there by Monday.

Thank you again for all of your hard work!

Flag Bag

Hello B Guard,

I am writing this post to help those of you who opted to make your flag bags this year.

Here is a picture of the flag bags we order- (the black one in the back)
Here is a close up of the top

Requirements for bag:

1. Must fit up to 4 Six foot poles.  Making it a little longer than 6 feet will ensure that all poles fit and     the bag can close over the top.  Also keep in mind how wide it will need to be to fit 4 poles side by     side.
2.  Please make it close with either a zipper, draw string, velcro, etc.
3.  Add a strap for easy carrying over the shoulder.
4.  Flag must be black.  You may add a piece of flair- please make it no bigger than 8 inches square.

Suggestions for bag:

1.  Make an external pocket that will fit a 36" rifle if you spin rifle- or would like your flag bag to last          you until you spin rifle.
2.  Make a small external pocket for gloves, tape, etc.
3.  Add some distinguishing marker such as an initial or a piece of fabric so you can tell them apart.
4.  Reinforce the bottom (on the inside) with heavy material such as old jeans, camo,  etc.

If you have any questions please e mail americanforkbguard@gmail.com

Happy Sewing!

Weekly Update Dec 21st

Hello Parents and Students!

Here is the schedule for this week:
Saturday Dec 28th  8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at  AFHS.
We will most likely have a gym so please meet in the band room a little before 8 so we can all walk down to the gym together.

This week we worked a lot on controlling our movement and flag tosses.  Please practice this week while you don't have rehearsal, even if it is 10 minutes a day.  Please make sure you have the choreography down and your tosses improved by Saturday.

If you haven't purchased a flag bag through the Jr. High, please remember that you will need to make one by the end of the month.  I am going to put specific criteria on the blog by tomorrow.  afbguard.blogspot.com  If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Also remember to have your "homework" done by the 30th. For your wedding "dream board"  Please have drawings or magazine cut outs of your ideal:  dress, bouquet, ring, colors, venue etc etc.  Be creative and have fun!   This is to help us get into character for our show "I Do"  by Colbie Caillat

Thank you for the great week.  Our first camp was really effective and we had a lot of fun.  Enjoy this week off with your family and take care of yourselves!

Weekly Update 12-8-13

Hello Parents and Students,

This last week was great! We have learned a lot of flag and movement basics, and we are ready to move on!  We have such a great group this year and I am really excited for what is to come.

I will be posting this weekly e mail to our blog afbguard.blogspot.com so if you lose it, you can still read it.

This week's schedule:
Monday: 6-7:45 am AFJH New Gym
Tuesday: 3:30-5:30 pm  AFHS Band Room
Wednesday: 6-7:45 am AFJH New Gym

Just some reminders of things that were in last weeks e-mail, or that we talked about in rehearsal:

Attendance is so important all season long.  You are allowed 3 absences OR Late Come/Early Leave.  All of which need a 24 hour notice via e-mail or phone call.  (e-mail is preferred because I am scatter brained)  We had a lot of people leaving in the middle of rehearsal without saying a word to any staff.  Please let us know 24hrs in advance, or if it is an emergency please come up to one of us and let us know what is going on.  Thank you.

The first installment of fees was due at the beginning of December.  The website should be up and running.  I strongly urge you to pay that as soon as possible.  The first installment reserves your child's spot on the team.  Also if you fall too behind your child will not be able to perform at the competition's if they are not current by that time. If there are any problems or questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Money for flag bags is due by Monday, December 16th. They are $22 paid to the AFJH Financial office.  If you are opting to make your own, please have them made by the end of December.  For more instructions see last week's e-mail.

Lastly- We have been so impressed by your students.  They are fun, have good attitudes, and  maybe a little too quiet, if that is possible.  We are starting on our second week of technique and urge your students to keep up the hard work and good attitude while we get the not so fun part out of the way.  We feel very strongly about building them a solid foundation so they can be successful through their whole high school career.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with your students!
